HERMANAS
was selected as a Finalist in the 2005 MetLife Foundation Nuestras
Voces (Our Voices) National Playwriting Competition co-sponsored
by Repertorio
Español in New York City. The competition’s mission
is to seek plays that focus on the Hispanic experience in the U.S.
The play was given a reading at Repertorio Español in November
of 2005.
In April of
2006, the play was invited to have a second reading at the 92nd
Street Y/Makor Steinhardt Center as part of the Feria Artistica,
a festival showcasing Latino-Jewish art and culture.
After playing
to sold-out crowds at Classic Stage Company as a participant of
the prestigious 2006 New
York International Fringe Festival, HERMANAS was one of 16 shows
(out of 220) selected to transfer to Theatre Row as part of the
first ever FringeNYC
Encores Series.
